Short story writers, grab your laptops for the 7th annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest presented by Kent District Library and Schuler Books & Music. Writers of all ages can enter in English or Spanish, with cash prizes awarded for Readers' Choice and Judges' Choice. Winning entries will also be published by Chapbook Press. If you are interested sharing this with your students and staff please have them go to the following link: https://www.writemichigan.org/ Today students got the opportunity to spend the day learning about GRIT and PERSEVERANCE. We started the day with videos and interactive activities. Students made an emoji grit booklet and took a grit scale quiz. They also participated in a paper challenge or in a group activity. The second half of the day we watched a movie titled: When the Game Stands Tall - A movie that has many examples of GRIT and PERSEVERANCE. What a great day! Parents just an FYI: if you check grades and see a "Z" in the space for a grade that Z represents a missing or not turned in assignment. If the space is blank no grade that is because the grades have not yet been record or graded by the teacher. Writing assignments and projects take longer to grade and usually teachers post all grades at once. Study Shaq meets from 3:15 pm until 4:15 pm Tuesday - Thursday and it's FREE. At Study Shaq students can have a quiet place to work on homework and/or receive help with their homework from one of the two teachers who are there to support the kids. There is an after school bus to bring kids home if its needed. If your child is struggling in math or with homework completion this is an awesome opportunity. To participate students must get a pass from the teacher they have homework from and report to the library after school for sign in. Please see the attached flyer for the SPIRIT ACTIVITIES. Those who participate will earn TEAM tickets. GO EK!
Parents, you will soon receive sign-in information in the mail for Synergy, our Grade book system. Please check grades often at home to ensure your student(s) are keeping up with turning in their assignments. Students receive their own unique sign-in information from school to also check their grades. Please note: that science, SS, and ELA have very few grades right now because we have been focusing on reviewing, assessing, and establishing norms for the transition to middle school.
