There was much excitement today as we handed out our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes. From now until November 2, team A sixth graders will have the opportunity to collect coins in an effort to raise money for children around the world. Our goal is $250.00.
Giving back can be a powerful learning experience for students. In class, we have been talking about this special and fun opportunity to help children in need. As we have discussed, charitable giving helps kids understand the world around them. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is a Halloween tradition that has helped provide lifesaving aid for children around the globe. Today Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has raised more than $170 million to help children in need all over the world.
Students are encouraged to collect as much as they feel comfortable with, knowing this fundraising project is optional. In the end, we will total our collections and send a check to UNICEF on behalf of Pinewood 6th grade TEAM A. Please encourage people to donate by check made payable to UNICEF. I will share our donation total on the website after the collections totals are available.
To find out more about Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, go to www.trickortreatunicef.org or feel free to email me directly. My hope is that this project will allow us to make connections to our studies of globalization and world resources. These can be tough lessons for sixth graders, and knowing they have helped make a difference in the lives of other children in the world less fortunate can be very powerful.
