Please see the letter below from Mrs. Kinsman the PE teacher.
Hello,
My name is Elizabeth Kinsman and I will be your students PE teacher for the third and fourth marking period of this school year. The third marking period starts right when we return from the holiday break, January 7th. I look forward to meeting your student and having them be a part of my class. I have attached our PE syllabus to this email so that you and your student know what they can look forward to while they are in PE.
One of the big differences that the students will notice in middle school PE is that they are required to change clothing while participating in PE class. This can sometimes be an intimidating change for the students, but I assure you we do everything possible to make them feel comfortable with this new procedure. There are different areas in both the boys and girls locker room that students can go (like the bathroom stalls) to change privately if they want. We will go over all of these procedures and answer all questions on the first day of class to hopefully help ease any worries (please feel free to email me directly if your student has a question they would like answered before that time or privately).
That being said, I wanted to email you ahead of the start date to give you time to double check that your student has proper PE attire. If you look at the syllabus it lays out what your student should wear when in PE. If they wear tennis shoes to school, they may wear those same shoes for PE. If they wear another type of footwear to school that day, they will want to make sure they bring a pair of tennis shoes along with them to school to wear while in PE. Another good option is to send your student with a combination or key lock so that they can rent a locker in the boys or girls locker room for both marking periods. That way they don't have to remember to bring their PE clothes daily, but can bring them on Monday and take them home on Friday to be washed.
I will be covering all of these topics and more with your student when I see them for the first time on January 7th. They will not need to change their clothes that day, but we will start "dressing" for PE the following day, January 8th. If you have any questions before that time or after please feel free to email me. I hope you have a fun a safe holiday.
